Google Expected to Launch Nexus One in India and Russia
Google is expected to unveil a more affordable version of its Nexus One smartphone with fewer features to attract users from emerging economies like India and Russia.
“Google was initially saying it wanted the Nexus One not to be tied to an operator, to be open and free for anyone to buy it and use it”, said Allen Nogee, an analyst with In-Stat. “It seems like a great philosophy. The problem is in the U. S. the operators have built a web in such a way that’s impossible to do”.
“Nexus One will not come to India in its US avatar, the India specific Google Phone may be a stripped down version and priced lower!”, posted Ankit Vengurlekar, Anchor and Producer at CNBC TV In India after interviewing the Managing Director of Google India, Shailesh Rao and Gaurav Bhaskar.

Self-Charging Handset Developed by Nokia
It is now possible to charge a cell phone without needing a plug-in point to connect your charger.
This had been made possible by Nokia as the experts have created a cell phone which is capable of recharging its battery as it can draw energy from the movements and the motion of the one using it.
It was known that this self-charging cell phone can function with heavier machinery supported with a powerful frame like the radio transmitter circuit and battery.
This frame is equipped with “rail mechanism” and it permits moving of the set side wise as well as horizontally up and down.
The rails, towards the end have strips of piezoelectric crystals which when compressed by the frame helps to produce electricity by phone’s or the user’s movement.
The energy thus produced is stored for further use in a capacitor.

The extent of the purge can be seen in a bar graph produced by AppShopper.com, which tracks the number of applications added and removed from the store each day. It shows Apple withdrawing more than 6,000 apps over the space of four days, including nearly 4,000 apps last Thursday alone.
Google vs. Apple: An epic battle
Posted by Alok in Tech Vision on March 5, 2010
On one side, wearing black, weighing in at 4.8 ounces, the 31-month champion of the touch screen phones: Apple’s iPhone!
On another side is the challenger, appearing on every carrier, a new entrant to the heavy-weight battle: Google’s Android!
It doesn’t take Michael Buffer’s “let’s get ready to rumble” introduction to know that Apple and Google are squaring off for what looks to be an epic battle of the smartphone platforms. Apple made that loud and clear on Tuesday when it announced it would sue HTC, the maker of the Nexus One “Google phone,” over 20 alleged patent violations.
Experts say Apple is an aging champion that is feeling threatened by the momentum surrounding new-to-the-game Google’s Android platform.
Skinput : Make ur body an input device
Posted by Alok in Tech Vision on March 4, 2010
Skinput, a technology that appropriates the human body for acoustic transmission, allowing the skin to be used as a finger input surface. In particular, it resolves the location of finger taps on the arm and hand by analyzing mechanical vibrations that propagate through the body. It collects these signals using a novel array of sensors worn as an armband. This approach provides an always-available, naturally-portable, and on-body interactive surface. To illustrate the potential of this approach, there are several proof-of-concept applications on top of our sensing and classification system.
Turn your arm into a phone with Skinput
Posted by Alok in Tech Vision on March 4, 2010
What if your skin could serve as an interactive surface? Researchers at Carnegie Mellon University and Microsoft have produced Skinput, an experimental device that turns the body’s largest organ into a touch screen.
Incorporating a pico projector into the armband turns the device into a body display, a bit like MIT’s SixthSense technology. Skinput could relay tapped commands to mobile devices or PCs via wireless technologies like Bluetooth.
Skinput has an accuracy of up to 95 percent in detecting tapped spots and works even when the body is in motion, according to the researchers, who are presenting a paper at the 28th Annual SIGCHI Conference on Human Factors in Computing Systems in April.
Apple sues HTC over iPhone patents
Apple is suing phone maker HTC, alleging that the Taiwanese company is infringing 20 Apple patents related to the user interface, underlying architecture, and hardware of the iPhone.
“We can sit by and watch competitors steal our patented inventions, or we can do something about it. We’ve decided to do something about it,” Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO, said Tuesday in a statement. “We think competition is healthy, but competitors should create their own original technology, not steal ours.”
HTC makes a number of mobile phones based on Google’s Android operating system.
Apple said that the lawsuit was filed concurrently with the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) and in U.S. District Court in Delaware.

Sony said Monday that the company has confirmed that a date glitch has prevented users of older PlayStation 3s from connecting to the PlayStation Network. Sony also warned users to stop playing the affected consoles, or risk losing data.
The issue surfaced over the weekend, and Sony said it had begun addressing the problem. Users also discovered that the newer “slim PlayStation 3s were not affected, which Sony confirmed Monday.

Sachin Tendulkar’s double century blows away talk of 50-over demise
Posted by Alok in Cric Today on February 28, 2010
So 50-over cricket is dying, and only muscle-bound, switch-hitting and reverse-sweeping batsmen can survive in the modern one-day jungle. Pah! Sachin Tendulkar certainly blew those couple of absurd and trendy notions asunder last week with his record-breaking one-day international double century against South Africa.
Its greatest glory was that it was an innings with which any era could identify; one of stunning convention and wonderful simplicity, full of straight-blade shots from a bat that somehow appears broader than any other.
There were cover-drives aplenty, all directly from the text book, which was not bad for a man who was so concerned about the stroke that he recently made a Test century with barely a single drive.
The area behind the bowler was explored relentlessly and the leg-side boundary found regularly with a late flick of the wrists. This truly was a victory for placement over power.
I hope the myopic county chairmen who voted against 50-over cricket were watching. This is a form of the game that must prevail. And if properly marketed and scheduled (is it any wonder that county 40-over matches are more popular when played in high summer rather than the Arctic April afforded 50 overs?), it can do.
